Mashed beef with potato and beet
Red meat is the best source of iron for a baby who is just starting solids, and the beet gives the plate a color that catches the eye. The beef is cooked until tender and mashed very fine, and the vegetables are mashed with a fork, kept separate, so your baby gets to know each flavor.

Ingredients
- 2 heaping tablespoons lean ground beef (about 2 oz / 60 g)
- 1 small potato
- ½ small beet
- ¼ onion, finely chopped
- a drizzle of olive oil
How to make
- 1Sauté the onion in the olive oil, add the beef and stir until it is no longer red, breaking up the clumps.
- 2Cover with 1 cup of unsalted water, put the lid on and cook for 15 minutes over low heat.
- 3Meanwhile, peel the potato and the beet, cut them into cubes and cook them in another pot of unsalted water for about 20 minutes, until they fall apart with a fork.
- 4Mash the beef with a fork with a little of the broth, until it is very fine and moist.
- 5Mash the potato and the beet with a fork and serve each in its own spot on the plate.
Tips
- Texture (6 months): mashed with a fork, a little lumpy. Beef very fine and moist, no hard clumps.
- Red pee and poop: beet can turn them reddish the next day. That is normal.
- Storage: 2 days in the fridge or 30 days in the freezer, in portions.
