Mashed chayote, broccoli and beef

Chayote has a mild flavor and gets soft very quickly, and broccoli introduces your baby to the taste of dark green vegetables, full of vitamins. With the beef, which brings iron, it becomes a complete lunch. Each part is mashed with a fork and served separately, so your baby gets to know each flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 heaping tbsp lean ground beef (about 2 oz / 60 g)
  • ½ small chayote (or zucchini)
  • 3 broccoli florets
  • ¼ onion, finely chopped
  • a drizzle of olive oil

How to make

  1. 1Sauté the onion in the olive oil, add the beef and stir until it is no longer red, breaking up the lumps.
  2. 2Cover with 1 cup of water, no salt, put the lid on and cook for 15 minutes over low heat.
  3. 3Meanwhile, peel the chayote, remove the core and cut it into cubes. Steam it (or cook it in a little water) for 10 minutes, add the broccoli and cook 8 more minutes, until everything is very soft.
  4. 4Mash the beef with a fork together with a little of the broth, until it is very fine and moist.
  5. 5Mash the chayote and the broccoli with a fork and serve each one in its own corner of the plate.

Tips

  • Texture (6 months): fork-mashed, with lumps. No whole broccoli florets, and the beef very fine and moist.
  • Funny face? Broccoli has a strong taste. Offer it again on other days: it can take 8 to 10 tries for a baby to accept it.
  • Storage: 2 days in the fridge or 30 days in the freezer, in portions.
