The family stew, with no salt in your toddler's portion: flaky fish, potato and carrot in a light tomato broth with fresh herbs. Fish once or twice a week is good for them and cooks fast.

Makes 3 servings Contains: fish

Ingredients

  • 1 fresh cod, hake or tilapia fillet, about 5 oz (150 g)
  • 1 small potato
  • 1 small carrot
  • 1 ripe tomato, chopped
  • ½ onion and 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • chopped parsley and green onions, and a few drops of lime or lemon juice
  • 1 drizzle olive oil

How to make

  1. 1Season the fish with the lime juice and garlic and cut it into large pieces.
  2. 2Sauté the onion in the olive oil, then add the tomato, the diced potato and carrot, and 1 cup water.
  3. 3Simmer, covered, for about 12 minutes, until the vegetables are soft.
  4. 4Lay the fish on top, cover and cook 8 more minutes without stirring.
  5. 5Turn off the heat, add the herbs and break the fish into flakes, checking for bones.

Tips

  • Texture (1 to 2 years): soft flakes and little cubes, about the size of your child's fingernail.
  • Family meal: set your child's portion aside before salting the pot.
  • Bones: feel every flake with your fingers before serving.
  • Storage: 1 day in the fridge. Fish is best made fresh.
