Fusilli with ground beef and carrot

A dinner your baby can eat with their hands: well-cooked fusilli is easy to grab, and the ground beef sauce clings to the spirals. The beef brings the iron babies need so much at this stage, and the carrot adds color and a little sweetness.

Makes 3 servings Freezer-friendly Contains: wheat

Ingredients

  • ½ cup fusilli pasta (durum wheat, egg-free)
  • 3½ oz (100 g) lean ground beef
  • 1 small carrot, finely diced
  • 1 ripe tomato, peeled and chopped
  • ¼ onion and 1 garlic clove
  • 1 drizzle olive oil and chopped parsley

How to make

  1. 1Sauté the onion and garlic in the olive oil. Add the beef and stir, breaking it up well, until it is no longer pink.
  2. 2Add the tomato, carrot and ½ cup of water. Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes over low heat, until the carrot is soft.
  3. 3Meanwhile, cook the pasta in unsalted water a little longer than the package says, until very soft. Drain.
  4. 4Stir the pasta into the sauce, add the parsley and serve warm.

Tips

  • Texture (9 to 11 months): very soft pasta that squishes between your fingers. Beef well crumbled and carrot in soft little cubes.
  • Wheat is an allergen: if your baby hasn't had it yet, offer it first at lunch and watch.
  • Finger food: leave a few spirals apart on the plate for your baby to pick up alone.
  • No salt: set aside your baby's portion before salting the family's.
  • Storage: the sauce freezes for 1 month. The pasta is best made fresh.
