Makes 1 serving
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp quick-cooking oats
- ½ cup water
- ½ ripe pear, peeled, cored and grated
How to make
- 1In a small saucepan, combine the oats and the water. Cook over low heat, stirring now and then, for about 5 minutes, until thick.
- 2Add the grated pear and cook 2 to 3 minutes more, until it is very soft.
- 3Remove from the heat, mash with a fork and let it cool to lukewarm before serving.
Tips
- Texture (6 months): thick oatmeal, mashed with a fork, with the bits of pear very soft. No blending and no straining: your baby needs to feel the little lumps.
- No sugar: a ripe pear makes it sweet enough.
- To vary: swap the pear for grated apple, or for mashed banana stirred in at the end.
- With your baby's milk: if you like, stir in a little breast milk or formula after taking it off the heat, to loosen it and give it a familiar taste.
- Storage: best made fresh. It keeps up to 1 day in the fridge; when serving, loosen it with a little warm water.
