Creamy chicken rice with peas and carrot

Soft rice cooked together with chicken and vegetables until creamy, so your baby can pick it up by hand or with a spoon. This is the stage of soft little pieces, and sticky rice helps bring everything to the mouth.

Makes 3 servings Freezer-friendly

Ingredients

  • 1 small chicken breast fillet (about 3 oz / 80 g)
  • 3 tbsp uncooked white rice
  • ½ small carrot
  • 2 tbsp frozen peas
  • ¼ onion, finely chopped
  • a drizzle of olive oil

How to make

  1. 1Cut the chicken into ½-inch cubes and the carrot into smaller cubes.
  2. 2Sauté the onion in the olive oil, add the chicken and stir until white.
  3. 3Add the rice and carrot, cover with 2 cups of hot unsalted water and simmer over low heat, stirring now and then, for about 20 minutes.
  4. 4In the last 5 minutes, add the peas. Turn off the heat when the rice is very soft and creamy.
  5. 5Lightly mash the peas with a fork and check that the chicken falls apart between your fingers.

Tips

  • Texture (9 to 11 months): rice well cooked and moist, chicken in soft little pieces. Peas always mashed, never whole.
  • Finger food: let your baby grab the rice by hand. Getting messy is part of learning to eat.
  • Storage: 2 days in the fridge or 30 days in the freezer. Add a little water when reheating.
